Yes, I do have "Stupid Girl" by Garbage running through my head because of all the hyperbole surrounding the Palin - Biden debate tonight. However, I do not think that Mrs. Palin is stupid. I also don't think that she has had enough education to hold the position of Vice President but that doesn't make her stupid. No, the reason that this song resonates for me today is because of one piece of the lyric: "...a million lies to sell yourself is all you ever had." Obviously, I am in the ever growing camp that strongly believes that her pick for this position was a desperate attempt to out Hillary Obama. While I also believe in aspirations, I know that one can't make the overnight leap from anesthesiologist to brain surgeon. So, we're now subjected to a plan that was poorly conceived and thanks to misguided aspirations, it's now her execution.
Bless her heart...
Speaking of stupid; back in '96 when "Stupid Girl" was high up the playlist at Atlanta's 99X, they had a lunch time music quiz. What Clash song is sampled in "Stupid Girl" was the question one day as I was stuck in traffic. First caller suggested "Should I Stay or Should I Go" and I groaned as they were thanked for playing. Second caller said "Train In Vain" and the dj said, "sorry, no." HUH? Third caller, obviously confused by what he, too, had just heard, sheepishly said, '"Rock The Casbah"?' and the disc jockey announced him as the winner as I fought the urge to visit the station and demand a job.
Stupid jock.
